I have just purchased a CPU Cooler Master (HAC V81) CPU Cooler. It has an adjustable fan speed control 2500 to 4800 RPM. When this is turned up to max, it is VERY loud. When turned right down, very quiet. My question is , what is the safe temperature to run my XP2100 chip at? I have an ASUS A7m266 Mobo. Asus Probe installed to keep check on the temp. It is at 64c idle.
Many Thanks

My MOBO temp is reported to be 48c.
I have another pc with same mobo but 1400amd processor. The reported temps on that machine are 61c for CPU and 37c for MOBO

that is too high! mine runs about 41 or 42 idle. what is the temp in the bios? sometimes asus probe reads about 10 deg. higher. download motherboard monitor 5. and try it.

thats too high even for a xp2000+ you need to invest in a better heatsink&fan, themaltake or something in that rage a 7+ to thermaltake 9 at least.also you need to us some artic silver III on that puppy and get rid of that stock thermal pad.a thermal pad is like throwing a wool blanket on yourself when its 90f outside,(NO GOOD for AMD's) and i don't care who may say different,i have set up and built many computer systems and i know the diff. on thermal compounds and there potentials.I also build and customize my own cases and i would have to say that without you telling me you have no intake or exhaust fans in your box, well the xp2000+ is a hot cpu chip (is it a palimino or thrbred.??? anyway they do run hot like the palimino xp1800+ so you really need good case ventillation.you need a good intake and exhaust to create a good airflow through your case.feel free to email me if you need help on case and computer set ups.good luck!

I suggest you de-install your temp monitoring software for a second here. Then adjust the fan to a loudness that is inaudible above the other noises from your case such as the hard drive and case fans. Don't turn the fan off though, just down. Then run 3dmark through 2 loops. Write down those scores.
Those scores show what your computer is capable of. Lower temps won't change those scores at all. Now you have three decisions:
can I live with those scores?
can I live with this noise?
can I tell myself not to worry about my temps, and never again look at them? (assuming you have an autoshutdown temp in your bios).
The goal for all of us is to answer yes to all three questions.

Like i said, i have never had a system crash, and never usually look at temps. I only did it because I bought the adjustable CPU fan recently and have turned it right down to 3000RPM (really quiet) and I wanted to see if the temp was ok. I did a temp check on my other pc (same setup except for 1400AMD and normal CPU fan) to compare. Its the MOBO temp that concerns me, over 12c higher on this pc.
The northbridge fan is playing up on this pc and I am going to change it to a QuietPC silent heatsink tomorrow. Hopefully MOBO temp will drop.

Have fitted the silent heatsink, MOBO temps still 47c.
Maybe i should just ignore it as there have been no system crashes?

with temps of 47 - 55 degrees you are just fine but past 55 and then I would be worried and 47-55 are idle temps loaded you can take to 60. So if 47 is idle sit back relax and checked the temps every once and a while for dust and crap

What model silent heatsink do you have? 47C is very high for a mobo temp. Is your cpu temp over 60C?

sorry bud...thought you said 47 was cpu temp....can't read in my old age...LOL johnnoh is right 47 is high for the mobo
