I am trying to build a Slot 1 machine. But before I go out and buy a board a had a question about an old pentium 133 gateway corporate server that i picked up a few years ago, and never got the chance to start up or test.
the board appears to have a slot 1 and socket 7 connector. i assume right now its set to use the s7 connector, because there is a 133 cpu in there. but there is a mysterious empty slot 1. i searched all of the PCB of the mobo, and there appears to be no jumper for switching between sockets/slots. i went to gateways website, but I can't seem to find my board by just the model of the server (P5-133) and I am not sure what to look for on the board to be searching gateways site. Is this board possible, or am I hallucinating? It was maufactured in 95 I don't even know if PII's were out. It doesn't appear to be a riser slot, because it's way the hell up at the top of the board, and to the middle.
Anyway I can avoid having to go out and buy a board would be appreciated, trying to save some $$$
I found 4 sets of jumper btw.
a cmos, a freqency multiplyer, starting at 2.0 and moving to i think 3.5? bus from 50 to 66 (3) and the last one was voltages, and i cant remember them. if this forum starts getting populated, ill double check once someone tells me what to look for.
i have no video card, so i cant test things right now!

Not sure if i remember correctly, but im sure i had a Pentium 1 board with a slot like you describe, which was for adding more cache to the system. What colour was the slot?

Sounds like a cache slot...also called Coast slot or Coast memory slot. Look to see if anything's printed along the side of it. Cache memory modules are cheap if you can find them...a couple of bucks. Try a local shop that does upgrades, they may have some laying around.
Also, your board may support different types of cache memory. I've worked with some old BCM SQ595 S7 boards that give the option of using the cache slot or individual cache chips....there was a jumper than had to be set depending on which cache was used.
Do you know how much cache memory you have, if any? Watch your boot screen...it should be listed there...

No idea on posting (no pci video cards around). I am not going to bother if that's a cache slot. It looked like a Slot 1, and I thought I could put a P2 or Celeron in there...guess I'll just have to buy a new board!
Thank you though, I am so used to onchip cache, that I've only heard of such slots...little did I know one was among myself all this time, lol.
