I am trying to replace my Celeron D with a Pentium 4 HT. I know the P4 is supported by my mobo. I installed the P4 in the board and hit the power button. PC boots and I go into bios, before I can make any changes PC shuts down. I have installed a chip into a fresh board but have never replace an ex chip. Any help appreciated. Thanks...

Overheating & shutting down as a safety precaution? Did you install the HSF properly? Did you use some sort of thermal paste or pad?

jam, thanks. Yes it was a very sloppy install. Cleaned CPU & Heatsink and then reinstalled. No problems after that.
