this is rediculous! i cannot for my live of me get this thing off, ive cut my hadn 7 times now adn nearly snapped the mboard in two and have probbaly wrecked my cpu. this is really pissing me off. I can push it down but can't puch it out releasing the clip.

There are two solutions:
1) Use a very small headed screwdriver which will mate down into the notch in the clip so that you can not only both push the notch downward to clear below the socket peg, but you can also then torque the clip outward from the peg it is latched to by pushing the screwdriver toward the heatsink's fan.
2) Use two screwdrivers, the first one to push the notch downward below the peg and the second one wedged in from the side to pry the clip outward.
Before going any further, I would turn the computer on and see if it still works. Its possible to damage the motherboard doing this. Amd has an idiotic heatsink retention design, as you have found out.
