I bought an Abit KR7A-RAID and a 1800+ Athlon. The CPU soft set seems to detect it as a 2000+, any attempt to set it otherwise results in a failed boot and the only way round is to clear the CMOS and start again. The board works well with a 1GHz Duron so it's basically OK. The problem is the Athlon chip is not stable (at this speed). It's unlike my supplier to give me something for nothing so is there a way to identify the speed of the chip?
I've done a BIOS upgrade and the same happened befor and after.
By the way, I say that I'm a reluctant overclocker 'cos I'd trade any gains in speed for stability.

WCPUID and Sisoft Sandra will both identify your CPU chip properly. It almost sounds like the FSB has been bumped up or the L1 traces have been connected (take a look).
