Hi all,

Currently have a Gigabyte 7VAXP motherboard and Athlon 2200XP processor. I want to have a play with overclocking so will be investing in a Barton processor - most likely a 2500XP. A friend of mine has one of these overclocked so it is running as a 3200XP!

What I need some advice on is the motherboard to go for.....all my components (LAN, audio, graphics) etc are separate so can be migrated etc! Any advice would be great!

Cheers

"I want to have a play with overclocking"

So why not overclock what you have? Your board has all the overclocking options necessary & you should be able to squeeze a fair amount outta that 2200+...the only thing that might hold you back would be your RAM. You should have PC3200.

"Asus A7N8X-? (many versions)"

I have the Asus A7N8X-X & I'm quite happy with it. Overclocks well & very stable

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice. I don't think the mobo/processor combo I have is that clockable. I have a fixed multiplier CPU and it seems like too much effort to use the pencil etc to unlock? Plus my mobo uses software to overclock which is pretty pants!

Also I have been looking at Coolers - CoolerMaster are my favoured brand - I like the Aero 4 but it seems pretty noisey? Can anybody recommend something v quiet?

Cheers!

1. Gigabyte, Asus, Abit, and Epox all kick @$$ at overclocking and stability.
Get a mobile 2500 barton as they generate less heat and are unlocked, most 2500's are now locked. ( darn AMD )

Happy O/C'ing
athlon xp 3200+
Gigabyte 7NNXP
WD 250 GB SATA
Windows 2000
GeForce FX 5900 Overclocked to 800 / 900
Idle -=53-55=-, load -=65-67=- seem's high but system very stable, board known for reading 10 deg over =)
