Hi all. Recently built a new machine. It came with an AMD recommended heatsin/fan combo. Installed heatsink/fan with Arctic Silver compound. Turned the machine on and booted to Windows XP and left it on overnight. I did not think to check the temperature straight away. In the morning I checked the temperature and it was running at 99c normal load! I switched it straight off and I am praying to god I have not damaged the processor. If I have I will be taking it straight back to the company I bought the cpu and heatsink from and getting a new one. What I wanted to ask was what heatsink/fans people recommend. I do not want to spend more than £30-£40 on it. Any recommendations? Thanks. TONY

I always use the retail heatsink. did you put just a drop of compound on the cpu? Putting alot can cause a problem. Did you spread it with your fingers? Spreading it with your fingers can cause a problem. Did you make sure you took the plastic off the bottom of the heatsink that protects the goo thats came with the heatsink? Not doing that can really cause a problem.

AX7 is a very good HSF but first make sure it will fit by checking their web site.

Coolermaster HHC-001 is also a good heatsink/ fan. The fan is a little loud though, you could try a 5000rpm fan on it the 7000 rpm fan is too loud.
