Hello, I have a 2500+ Barton processor. I assume it's locked cuz it was just purchased recently. An Asus A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 Rev mobo and a 512 stick of OCZ ddr400 ram. I OCed my 2500+ to 3200+ speeds and my computer randomly shuts down. It takes a long time, like over 6 hours sometimes, but eventually will. Then whenever I try to play the Far Cry demo it does almost immediately. That could be relating to something else though. Anyway, I raised the Vcore all the way to 1.8, but it still happens. Shouldn't I be able to OC it to 3200+ without any problems? Thank you.

Also, I OCed my xfx ti4200 card with the coolbits program to 299mhz core and 521mhz memory. I was going to go and reduce it when I noticed that it automatically reset itself. Why is this? Anyway, the first is the more important question. Thank you again.

Nevin

I have a 400w power supply. Yea I didn't think I needed 1.8v either, but I figured it maybe be a fix to the prob. Doesn't seem to be though. Thanx for any info.

I didnt achieve a stable oc until i hit 1.9 vcore on my 2600 mobile.

The only sure fire way to test an oc is to run a program called prime95. If you run the program and get any errors, reboot and raise your vcore .25 volt then run the test again.Keep doing this until you get no errors for atleast 8hours.I know that seems like awhile to wait but it is worth it.It sounded like a load of crap to me the first time i read that but in the end i had a solid running pc during any application.

As for your shutdown problem, i had the same thing happen to me after i installed a geforce 6800 ultra. The problem was that the card required alot of juice and my 425 watt psu didnt deliver that required juice so i replaced with an OCZ 520 watt psu and havnt had any shutdowns since.

I know you said that you have a 400 watt psu but if that psu is a cheap off brand then it wont deliver like a quality psu. You need to look at the sticker on the psu and see how much amps the 12+ volt rail carries. It should have a minimum of 18 amps and more is better.

The 12 volt rail on my OCZ 520 watt carries 33 amps.

I forgot to add

Make sure the second power lead of the power supply is plugged in. Its a square 4 prong adapter That was made to deliver more power to the cpu.

As for what nevin said you should disregard his statement (sorry nevin)

The reason i say that is because every ones pc is different. Just because he achieved an overclock at a vcore less than 1.8 v doesnt mean every one will. Not all 2500's are exactly the same. also you may have more hdd's,pci cards and roms wich all draw power from the power supply.

If you search other oc forums you will find that alot of people with 2500's have different vcore settings.

As for your vcore you should let prime95 tell you.

huh?
