Subject: Ram still needs HELP! OS: Win Xp Pro CPU/Ram: P4 2.8
|
Comment: My Computer boots up when it wants to it gets stuck sometimes on verifing DMI pool data .... or when u try to enter the bios. This has started since i added my new ram PC2700 512 DDR333, before i had PC2100 DDR266. I also overclock my pc so this proably doesn't help! I was overclocking my old ram from 266 to 316, and i am underclocking this new ram from 333 to 316, because my motherboard doesn't allow me to have ram over 333 because of my CPU which is P4 FSB533 2.8. If i had a FSB800 i would be alowed to OC this ram. OLD: P4 FSB533 2.8 @ 3.33 133X21 @ 158X21 PC2100 256 DDR266 266 @ 316 MB GA-8IPE1000-L NOW: P4 FSB533 2.8 @ 3.33 133X21 @ 158X21 PC2700 512 DDR333 333 @ 316 MB GA-8IPE1000-L Temps for CPU are alright; idel=25C full=40C i am only using one pice of ram which is the 512mb PC2700. I cant leave the ram the same speeds as i am overclocking. Before i upgraded my pc was fine! On my otherpost of this they said it could be my psu, so i upgraded to 550w and it made no difference, Is it that it needs more or less voltage because its underclocked if not i will sell this and go back to Pc2100? and has anyone else had this problem? Just have to pull the plug out about 30 times and eventually got it to work this is getting anoying and nothing seems to work! Hope you can help me! Need any more info just ask!

Reply: (edit)How many amps are on the +12v rail of that PSU? 550 watts is worthless if you only have 10-12 amps on the +12v. You should have a minimum of 16 amps...preferrably higher... Make sure your RAM timing isn't too aggressive. What's the RAM voltage set at? Default is 2.5v, but you may need to raise it to 2.7v. Have you tried running memtest86 to check your RAM for errors? ...there is no spoon...

Reply: (edit)Sounds like you have a weak power supply...14 amps is cutting it awfully close. How many devices do you have? Your P4 needs about 10 amps alone...add to that the motherboard, HDD(s), optical drive(s), cooling fans, etc & you're probably overstressing the PSU. That can cause random rebooting. Try temporarily unplugging the power from your optical drive(s) & if you have 2nd HDD installed, unplug the power to that too....then try booting up. If it works OK, the PSU is to blame. Get a PSU with at least 350 watts (550 is overkill) but make sure that +12v rail has more than 16 amps. Personally, I wouldn't get one with less than 20 amps Overvolting the RAM shouldn't hurt it, just don't go higher than 2.7v ...there is no spoon...

Reply: (edit)I uped my ram +0.1 and i cured the hanging at the point it was hanging but then it rose another problem, it scans the HDD for errors ect and finds that many files in windows all .log are the wrong size it corrects them and then goes to my login screen and automaticaly restarts it self and goes around in a loop! Ram is alright when i don't underclock it and i cant overclock it because of my CPUs Fsb

Reply: (edit)Set your RAM voltage to 2.7! Did you disconnect the devices like I suggested? ...there is no spoon...

Reply: (edit)I didn't say to unplug the fans...I said to unplug the optical drives (CD, DVD, CDRW) & if you have more than one hard drive, unplug that as well. Fans draw very little power. Don't raise your RAM voltage over 2.7v. You could try increasing the CPU voltage slightly though ...there is no spoon...
