Comment:

i have just recently build a computer. i have a 2.6c p4, 256mb cosair XMS, and msi i865 PE neo2, i am new with overclocking, so i have encounter many problems in my first try. i have overclock my computer a bit, i have set fsb to 223 from 200 with the vcore of 1.56+ and ram voltage of 2.8v and also 1.7v for the agp. 223fsb is the best i can go and it still not quite stabel, it can run simple program but if i play games such as command and conquer generals in few minutes it will crash. yeterday i got it to 228 but it is unstable and uses a high vcore, 1.7v. i think the ram divider is holding me back, but i search all of my bios but i cant find the ram divider section. so plz help me by telling me where i can adjust the ram divider and also plz give me a good overclocking suggestion. ooo forgot my idle temp is 37/38c and on load may reach up to 47c.

23 mhz jump all at once...i don't know how intel systems handle that, but with AMD set ups, you can possibly damage something...
i suggest you do some research instead of jumping right into it...you may not of had to change any other settings and maybe going big on fsb adjustment and changing voltages might of made your system unstable...

800 mhz fsb is not fast enough?
i'm not all that new to overclocking, but what is a ram divider?
i've heard of cpu/ram ratio, probably the same thing...cpu/ram ratio settings is in the bios
what's the speed of your memory?

For P4 800 mhz ... just set your FSB to 230 to begin with. No sweat.

Set your memory to 3:2 and 3-4-4-8. You could take care of the memory later on after you get the highest FSB.

One of mine stops at 273FSB and other lazy one tops 260. Both stable with Prime95 for hours. Don't get over 1.7vcore. It's not the heat that kills PR, it's the voltage.

my memory speed is ddr400, and i think it is also called as ram ratio. i would turn the ratio to 3:2 but in msi mother board there is no such thing like that. my best guesses the ram ratio can be adjust be adjusting the dram frequency, am i right?? can somebody tell me how to covert the ram ratio to Mhz value?

In your board's BIOS, there is a section called "frequency and voltage" and I think that's where you adjusted your FSB up to 228. There is an item called "DRAM frequency", if you want 5:4, set it to 333 before you tune up the FSB. 1:1 you'll set it to 400. That's where you set the ratio. Also you need to set AGP/PCI in this section to 66/33 or the closest value. The performance mode is up to your RAM's settings, experiment a little bit, you'll probably be ok with turbo or fast. Also, you need to disable D.O.T. function of your board when OC but I don't know where that is.

The DOT is in this section also. Your Vcore is way too high, two or three notches above the default voltage should get up to FSB 250, at least.
