I'm not sure it's safe to run any laptop on anything other than a flat surface. I have had a look on newegg for you and these seem to be the best processors I found on my budget. If your budget is unlimited I assure you there is faster ones.

They're officially called "notebooks" these days. The reason being that most of them have a large portion of the venting on the bottom and when you place them on your lap, they overheat because you're blocking the vents.

Processors have done nothing but get more powerful over time.... and with more power comes more heat. But they run fine.... so long as you don't block the vents :)

so what your saying is when they keep pushing clock speeds: the hotter things get becuase more power is used

well the reason is ask is i had an older laptop and it was hot( it was before centrino came out)

but now i have this 2 yr old pentium M centrino notebook. it runs much cooler than previous notebooks i had

the main thing im wondering is
are these dual core AMDs or intel core dues in notebooks run like a centrino pentium M( which is cooler compared to than an Pent 4)

I would think the key phrase there is "older laptop"

Did you ever open it up and clean the vents? They plug easily on laptops.

Once again, someone thinks Centrino is a CPU...it's not. Your CPU is a Pentium M. Centrino is a particular hardware configuration (aka technology package).

"The Centrino package consists of:

* The Pentium M processor
* The 855 chipset Family
* The PRO/Wireless network connection"
