hi
Recently, I have purchased a motherboard combo from outpost, AMD Duron 1.6GHz Bare Processor with Motherboard.http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4296754
Processor: AMD duron 1.6GHz+ Bare CPU
Chipset: VIA KT266A
Processor Support: Socket A 266/200MHz Front Side Bus CPU
Memory Support: Up to 2GB PC2400 DDR
Expansion Slot: 1x AGP 4X, 5x PCI, 1x CNR
Other Features: Audio, 10/100 LAN, USB 2.0,
They send me a Duron 1.6 Ghz and PC Chips K7 M811LU V.3.1 motherboard.
When I go to check the compatibility, it seems like M811LU motherboard not support Duron 1.6ghz. It is only support up to Duron 1.3ghzDoes anyone has this problem? What happens if I use that processor?

Actually, the motherboard is compatible with the Duron 1.6; but it will not post straight out of the box.
The Duron runs at 133MHZ which is compatible with the 266MHZ FSB of the motherboard. (133 X 2=266)You will need to put a compatible CPU into it and flash the bios beforehand
(see http://www.pcchips.com.tw/bios/bios.asp?module_id=4 see M811LU).Also the flash procedure states that the hardware ID doesn`t match the bios so you may have to force flash it.
2. Like a few other boards the cmos jumper is in the clear position by default, you have to change it to the normal position before it will power up.
Let me know what happens.

You need to update the BIOS:
file name:M030910.bin
Checksum:C900h
release note: 1.support new AMD Duron CPUhttp://www.pcchips.com.tw/PCCWeb/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?MenuID=24&LanID=0&DetailID=235&DetailName=BIOS

WDC 60GB

I could be wrong, but I think it will post with the 1.6Ghz Duron installed, it just won't be properly recognized until you flash the BIOS.

It'll post with the board set up for 133Mhz...just will show "unrecognized processor" message. The bios flash should take care of that.
