Hi guys,
I'm looking to over clock my quad core. I havn't over clocked since I clocked my old 1.7 ghz P4 years ago. Fisrst off, what am i looking for int the bios to clock? On the old P4, i need to find a mutiplier and set it to around 120 insted of 100. What do I change on a 775 quad core? Also, What is the max temp I should run my quad core at? It runs 29 now. Lastly, I used a program called toast in the past to test the systems stability...I was unable to find it now, are there any other similer programs that you can let run overnight to see if your systems crashes or not?
Thanks,
Cody

You can always run 2 instances of "Prime95" to find out if the system is stable over night. What I would do in this case is to change the FSB:RAM to 1:1 ratio since you only have DDR-2 667Mhz memory and then raise the FSB 10Mhz increment...
For example...
CPU External Frequency = 333Mhz (10mhz increment from 266Mhz)
CPU multiplier = 10x
CPU:RAM = 1:1 (266Mhz FSB = 266Mhz RAM)
CPU vcore = 1.3v (+0.0125v for further stability no more than 1.55v max)
PCI-E/PCI = 100/33Mhz
VDIMM Voltage = 1.9v (+0.1v if necessary for higher FSB overclock)As far as temperature goes, try to stay below 65C under heavy load. I would use "CoreTemp" to check the temperature under 2 instances of "Prime95" and also run "Throttlewatch" to see whether the CPU throttles under heavy load...

Thanks for all the info, I'll try some stuff out and report back...btw, i'm getting better ram, trhe timgn is wroong on that ram acording to intell and i'm replacing it with 5-5-5 ram...btw as in my other post...bios Says 25-30 c for temps, speedfan says 57for each core...and core temo says 70c...i have no idea whats gogin on

"I'm looking to over clock my quad core"
Getting a board based on the Intel P35 was a good move...buying a board manufacturered by Intel was not. Your board has basic BIOS options only. That's typical of most Intel boards...they're designed for stability & functionality, not overclocking.
"i'm getting better ram, trhe timgn is wroong on that ram acording to intell and i'm replacing it with 5-5-5 ram"
If you have the ability to change the timings in the BIOS, that's all you'd have to do...you don't have to get new RAM. Besides, isn't your RAM something like 4-4-4-12? 5-5-5 is slower! Why would you want slower RAM?
Sorry to say, but what you should be replacing is the motherboard, not the RAM. However, DDR2-800 (PC2-6400) would have been the better choice.
You might wanna avoid TigerD while you're at it.

I have the q6600 on a intel xbx2 board. I have it clocked up to 3g right now (straight bus increase... nothing special). It could go up further but you REALLY need to keep an eye on the temps. With 4 cores in the same case... she gets hot REAL fast.
Don't be surprised if you see HIGH temps when OC'ing. At one point core temp said I was hitting 100C... which I thought was an outright lie... until I put my hand on it.... OUCH! Scared the crap out of me... it's the first time I ever shut down a machine by literally ripping the cord from the wall!
I now have liquid cooling on and I run from about 38 at idle and about 68 at full load.
But again.. I warn you... WATCH THE TEMPS!!! When it says 85 or 90 degrees.... it's NOT lying.
And to test all 4 cores at the same time, you will need to run 4 instances of Prime at the same time.

You don't have to go to the BIOS and overclock.

Download nTune made by Nvidia. It's a program where you can overclock, Tune, stress test, etc.
