Hello all,
own an Advance 10T motherboard (VIA Apollo Pro 133T: VT82C964T + VT82C686B) and a friend of mine gave me his 1.0Ghz Pentium III prosessor (on the CPU it says INTEL 1000/256/133/1.75). Now my current prosessor is a Pentium III at 500 (100x5). In the manual it says that my motherboard suppourts the following microprossesor: 66/100/133Mhz FSB Speed and Intel Coppermine Pentium III FC-PGA prossesors at 533/..../1.0Gzh/1.1Ghz.
I installed the CPU fine, the jumpers set to AUTO so they could see the CPU's FSB. I turned it on and it said PIII 1.0Ghz 133x7.5 and THEN the pc immedietly powered off. Any thoughts? Can i set it manual to 133x7.5 or maybe lower so that it can work.
Thank you in advance,
waiting for your help!

my guess is that you forgotten to change the cpu voltage to 1.75v...

Is it possible you only own PC100 SD Ram ???

With changing the FSB you Ram will also run at 133MHz and it's possible that one ore more of your PC100 ram stick will not be able to run at PC133 speed.
From my own experiences most PC100 Ram is able to run at 133MHz if you set them to slower (higher) CL numbers and change the other speeding options in the bios to normal.

If you have more than one ram stick try them seperately!

Thank you very much for your replies!
Litz , how can i change the cpu voltage to 1.75v. Should i enter the BIOS menu? The problem is that i can't access it because the pc turns off when it says on the screen PIII 1.0Ghz etc. Oh and i have 2x256SDRAM @ 133Mhz so they are fine, right?

you can replace it with you 500mhz cpu, then enter the bios by hitting "del" on startup. search around if there's a voltage setting which allows you to make the changes. (assuming there is.) change it to 1.75v, save and exit. then let it boot to desktop and do a proper shutdown. now, replace the 500mhz cpu with the 1 ghz.

if there's no votage setting option in the bios, then you'll have to look within the motherboard for the voltage setting jumper and make the changes accordingly.

Ok i found the jumper settings in order to set the CPU voltage to 1.75. Also my pc power pack is 235W, i assume that there wont be a problem...
I will experiment and report again.
PS:Thank you all, and once again for your help Litz :)

Hello again,
well i changed the jumper settings, but nothing happened.I set them to 1.75V with the 500Mhz installed, rebooted properly and then installed the 1.0Ghz but once again when i turned on the pc the screen opened and THEN powered off again! Any other thoughts, i think that maybe the cpu has a problem or something :(
Back to searching i guess....

hi stevie,

a few blind shots :

1. power supply - your power supply MIGHT not have provide enough juice. if you have another system, try out with its power supply. or maybe(i'm not quite sure if this works), unplug everything except cpu(1 ghz), a stick of ram and video card and try booting.

2. hsf - make sure that heatsink sit firmly with both ends of the heatsink prong hook onto the cpu socket, and that fan is working. also check if there's thermal compound between cpu die and heatsink's contact.

3. flash bios - if you're confident enough, try flashing with the lastest bios, see if that works? (note : flashing of bios with the wrong procedure/version WILL crippled your motherboard.do it at your own risk!)

good luck.
