Subject: PWM not kicking in
OS: XP
CPU/Ram: E6750 2Gb RAM
Model/Manufacturer: MSI
Comment:
Just assembled this PC today (MSI Neo2-FR, Geforce 8800GTS 320Mb, Zumax 550W PSU). As a CPU cooler I am using the Igloo 5072 PWM from Glacialtech. I switched on PC and went to BIOS for temperatures. The CPU fan is running full speed even though it is running at 36C only! I cannot make PWM kick in. The fan at full speed is quite load, so I would like to calm that down a bit. CPU is E6750. Any solutions? Thanks!

Can I just ask what PWM stands for? As for fan speed control is it enabled in BIOS? And I believe there is a software solution with this mobo which I assume you haven't got installed as you went to BIOS to look at the temperature. Try that too. On the other hand 36° for E6750 is not that low as you might think (mine idles at ~20° with fan running @ 1400rpm. cooler is not a low-end like yours but CPU is clocked @3.3GHz). Is heatsink installed properly? Thermal paste used correctly? You may want to look into that first.

PWM [Pulse Width Modulation] requires a 4 pin connector. Does your cooler have only 3 pins?
If so, then choose the 3 pin option in your BIOS.

The glacialtech Igloo 5072 PWM obviously has 4 pins! Otherwise it wouldn't be called PWM!
