does anyone know that website where you can work out the power your pc setup uses?

The reason for my question and im inviting any input or peoples opinions here is ive baught a new hyper type-r 580 watt psu. Im trying to work out how much electricity my comp uses. Ie how much its actually gonna cost me running it. Its a bit of a long standing argument between me and my girlfriend. Ie "turn that bloody thing off it s costing us loads on our elecy bill" lol

I know its impossible to get a deffinatve figure due to changing loads ie startup gaming overclocking etc..... But do you think my 580 watt psu will draw more elecy on the exact same componant setup over a 300 watt psu for example.
i know 580 watt is the max and i would guess my system is drawing under 300 watt in normal running. Is there anyway if i work out all the componats draw on the power i could work out the kwPH ratio and finally work out the price per kw hour and how much it cost to run.

Just cant seem to get my head aroud it, it not like a electric heater (although it does kick out some heat lol) ie 3000 watts = so much power per hour etc....

Any help or opinions welcolme

A 580W PSU does not use 580W...it has 580W available if you need that much. Your rig will only use as much as it needs.

I don't have a lot of faith in these wattage calculators, but here's one that usually recommended:

According to my calcs, my 550w power supply has a input wattage of 1150 watts, more than 11 100 watt light bulbs. This is absolute maximum. Believe me if it actually used 1150 watts all the time, I could not afford to pay for it. Most of the time it is drawing much, much less than that. Probably around 100-150 watts, which is very cheap, MAYBE at the most $10 US a month.

There is usually only 1-2 amp draw difference between 300 & 600 watt power supplies.

There should actually be an input rating on the power supply sticker.

If the input rating is in amps, use this formula to get the watts:

Watts = Voltage x Amps

She doesn't own a 1200 watt hair dryer does she? :-)

Your 100 watt light bulb is based on 110 V; your power supply is based on 12, 5 and 3.3 volt.

lazyman - read my lips :-)

I said INPUT voltage, which is usually rated @ 115 or 230 volts.

Watts don't mean anything like the Volts do. You could have a 500 watt psu but if the volts on the 12 volt rail is low, you are going to run into a lot of problems on a power hungry machine.

Cobra_R - obviously you didn't read the whole thread *sigh*. The concern was how much they would pay for the electricy it used.
