Hey,
I was wondering what is the best method to put the heat sink on. I have a volcano 7+ and I want to put Artic Silver compound to keep the temps. low. Should I just put a drop of artic silver and then just put the heat sink on top of it or what. Is it supposed to touch with the CPU really closely. Why do people say be careful. Will it break the CPU. Let me know. I just want to learn the best and the safest way to put a heat sink on. Thanks to all in advance.

Well, everything I have seen on the net says to apply a paper thin coating of the arctic silver and let me tell you that my experience has been that that just causes heat trouble and lockups. I would suggest putting it on the actually chip core instead of the heatsink and on an AMD chip I would use a drop of arctic silver about the size of a BB. About four times what they say to use and then use a razor blade and smear it around and make sure that you cover every part of the chip. Then put on the heatsink and try not to scoot it around after the two touch.
