My Compaq Presario 5000 runs at a Celeron 1.2 GHz processor. Am I able to get a different processor for my computer? I have asked around and people tell me that all motherboards are different, and some are specifically built for a certain processor or can just not run a better processor. I really want to upgrade the processor so please help me.

P.S. - E-Mailing Compaq will not help, because they don't believe in their customers doing their own work on a computer.

Celeron 370 socket 1.2ghz should be tualutin chip with 256kb cache. There is not much you could upgrade to because the highest Tualatin processor speed is 1.4ghz. Your gain will be minimal.

I am still running a 1.3 overclocked to 1.6, and it is better than the P4 Celeron which only has 128k cache. For this reason, I keep it as a server. Unfortunately, there is no way to overclock OEM equipment (Compaq).

Your best solution is to go for a new computer.
