Comment: I have a gateway 2000. I changed to p133 processor to a p166 processor. The p166 came from a compaq deskpro 2000. How do I know if the gateway is running at 166? I tried installing WinME, but it said I had to have a 150MHZ processor or higher. Any suggestions on jumpers or somthing?

Reply: (edit)I’d run Belarc Advisor or Sisoft Sandra and see what your CPU is clocking at.

Reply: (edit) The real truth about the MHZ rating on processers is that they are tested to their highest stable setting then backed off some and sold as that. There is little to no difference between the too chips.Your problem is that you havnt set the jumpers to 166mhz for the chip.you could probly run you 133 at 166 if your mobo supports it.For that matter you might be able to get as much as 200 with good cooling.Look real close at your mobo.Somewhere on it is a chart that will explain the jumper settings for cpu speed.start with 166,make sure it runs good then start slowly going up a step at a time.Never know how high a chip will go untill you try.Just keep a close eye on temp and stability and if it starts acting up back off a little and you will have no trouble.
