Did you check to make sure your Motherboard can handle 512MB RAM in 1 chip?

A lot of the older MoBO's could only take up to a 256MB chip.

Check the specs on your MoBO.

post your Mobo make and manufacturer.

mostly likely 512mb can't be installed in yours.

Virtually any configuration up to 3GB can be reached using any combination of Kingston's 64, 128, 256, 512MB, and 1GB modules."

Try moving the 512 MB DIMM to another slot. Also, check the manual to see what DIMM slot should be used first.

High density chips! The latest memory bieng manufactured by most of the vendors uses high density chips (less chips to do the same job that older ones did). Many motherboards that are 3 yrs or older will not handle these chips. Check the manufacturer's web page, and I bet that is what you will find. If you contact the manufacturer, they will probably work out a trade for you. I just went through the exact same thing, and Kingston was very helpful.

When I called them, they knew exactly what the problem was. Mine were Kingston Value-Ram 4 chip (I had 1 year old ones that were identical, including part number, except they were 8 chip) 128M pc133s. They had a diffrent part number that was a straight across trade, but had the 8 chips. Otherwise, I could have traded them for pc100s, but they were $6. more each. They paid shipping to me, and I paid shipping to return mine to them.

Part# KVR133X64C2/128 high density
Part# KVR133X64C3Q/128 low density
The "Q" was the magic letter, according to the person I talked to.

I should mention that their personnel were some of the most pleasant reps I have ever dealt with on the phone.
