System specs listed below.
When I reboot my computer by ANY means, (via windows the proper way, reset button, after power failure, ctrl + alt + del, or if I hold in the "on" button to shut down and then restart), at reboot my screen stays totally black and the activity light on my computer is lit constantly. If I mearly try to reboot with any of the afore mentioned methods, the same thing happens again. BUT.... if I hold in the power button to shut down and then start up again as a hard boot, the computer begins to start normally. I hear a "degauss" sound coming from the moniter and my puter attempts to boot up. After a beep, I am informed by my moniter that"Overclocking has failed" and I need to enter setup to reconfigure my system. I then have the choice of F1 for setup and F2 to load default. If I take the F2 route, by puter boots up and is fine. If I try to reboot or shut off and start up again later though, it's the same process all over again..... first attempt = black screen, second attempt = overclock error but loading defaults lets me start it and work normally.
This problem arose several months ago when I updated my bios trying to get my system to recgonize more than 1 Gig RAM. I show 2 GIG of RAM now but have the reboot problem and I dont like stressing my CPU by doing the power off/power on thing. I tried to update with ASUS' newest BIOS today but I couldnt even get it to boot up so I went back to the pervious BIOS. I'm NOT trying to overclock anything. I leave all the settings at the default.
Any Ideas anyone???
