I recently picked up a 2400+ mobile Barton. It's currently running at 2.2GHz (11 x 200MHz) on an ASUS nForce2 board with 2 x 512MB PC3200. I've haven't taken the time to dial in all the settings yet, but I have no doubt I'll get it up to 2.5GHz

You keep asking about overclocking this thing & saying you're gonna upgrade the PSU. It may not be necessary at all. You seemed to be reluctant to increase the CPU voltage. All CPUs are not created equal...some 2500+ CPUs will easily overclock to 2.2GHz w/o a vcore increase, & some have to be jacked up. 1.7v simply may not be enough for your CPU, plus there's always the possibility that the board undervolts slightly.

What brand is your current PSU? How many amps are on the +12v rail? If you don't, open the case & look at the label on the side of the PSU.

If you decide to upgrade the PSU, here's some advice...don't cheap out. If you don't spend at least $40, you're probably gonna end up with a piece of crap. Here's a decent PSU at newegg that has a $10 rebate involved:

i still have the barton 2500 i bought about 2 years ago but my computer refuses to acqknowledge that it is anything other than a 3200 ;) i just up'ed the fsb to 200 w/a better heat sink and its been running extremeley stable at that for about 2 years now. went through a faze where i had it at like 2.32ghz for a while, no voltage tweaks (still stable ^_^) but overclocked to much and had to reset the cmos =(
