Comment:
ok so i finally got my motherboard, and guess what everything works, YAAAY, so now i installed windows XP, and set up everything.
I now decided time for some overclocking, i didnt want to overclock too much, i figured if i can get it to about 2.5GHZ that would be good, and if i can get 2.6 I will be more then happy. well i started and the farthest i got which is now, is 2.43 (221 x 11) and Prime95 gives me an error right at the beginning and stops (something about needing to be lower then 0.4 while i got 0.499999). I then decided ok time for some v.core, well i dont have that option in my BIOS.... so then i decided well ill change my CPU/RAM ratio, so i wanted to do 3:2, but i dont have that option either... i did have this thing where i can lock ram freq being 100, 133 and 166MHz, so i choose to lock it at 166, i boot up everything is fine, run CPU Z it says my ram is running at 166 not 333 (i assumed it would double to get a result of 333 due to DDR) but i ran Prime95 again anyways, saaaaame thing im stuck 2.43 and its not even stable, im using the PC now but ya :S also this is on air cooling but not OEM heatsink/fan.
ok, so nobody is helping me so i will just give out more info, i tryed different HT links for safety im leaving it at 600MHz, and i got the FSB to 215MHz Giving me 2.365 GHz so far so good. i would like to know how to manipulate the HT, i understand overclocking, but i wanna learn more i only understand the concepts and principle not the practical work, so HT just doesn't act as i would assume it would, so please give me some OCing tips with A64s, with there HT.
NOTE: as said in the post above i cant increase vCore so unless im just stupid and missed it :P i can increase it which would of saved me alot of trouble.
The A64 doesn't have a FSB...get your terminology straight. I'm just gonna copy/paste a previous answer & change some of the numbers to apply to your setup:
CPU freq = 250MHz CPU multi = 11x HTT multi = 4x RAM freq = 166MHz (DDR333) PCI-E = 100MHz PCI = 33MHz Spread Spectrum = disabled Cool'n Quiet = disabled RAM voltage = add 0.10v to default voltage CPU voltage = increase as necessary to stabilize
CAS Latency = 2.5 RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD) = 3 Row precharge Time (tRP) = 3 Min RAS active time (tRAS) = 10 Command rate = 1T
um i know there is no FSB but it just easier to say so, um like said i cant increase voltage i just cant there is no option and ya i will try this setup when i get home and btw is HT x4 800Mhz causei dont have it in xX i have as 200,400,600,800,1000 and i have 2 options CPU to NB and SB to NB
You obviously didn't use the settings I provided....if you did, your RAM wouldn't be running at 215MHz. You have to set the RAM to 166MHz (DDR333). Right now, your RAM is preventing you from overclocking the CPU any higher. As you increase the CPU-LDT freq, the RAM speed *should* also increase...if you can get the CPU freq up to 240MHz, the RAM will run at approx 200MHz. On an A64 system the CPU & RAM do NOT have to run at the same bus speed.
I just had a look at your board's manual & sorry to say, it lacks the necessary BIOS options to be a good overclocker.
ohh no that was my settings before im still not home yet i will be there maybe about 10 ~ 11 PM depending if my teacher lets me out 5 minutes earlier xD sad how 5 mins allows me to be home an hr earlier, but that is my setup that is messing up, so yes i am going to use ur OC knowledge jam cause ur knowledge is close to gods xD. and about the my mobo being dirty OC capable lol, i just got a 3000+ for 50 bucks so yay my stupid messed up mobo can work now and because i bought all new pieces thinking it was everything else i have enough to make a second PC with it xD so im going to have 2 times the PC to practice my OCing power :P
nope it didnt work i placed it at the CPU freq at 250 and it didnt even boot so i tryed at 230 and your settings and i failed the test i tryed lowering the ram even more to 3-4-4-12 and it still didnt work grrr :(right now its running stable at 212 but thats not much of an increase :S
I guess I should have been more clear. You shouldn't set the CPU freq directly to 250MHz. You should start at 200MHz & add 10MHz at a time, rebooting & testing for stability after each change. The fact that you have no CPU voltage adjustment & no way of adjusting the CPU multiplier is definitely gonna hold you back.
There's no reason to play with the RAM timings, it's not gonna help with the CPU. You can adjust the RAM settings later. Just make sure to set the RAM to 166MHz...that way, you'll be reasonably sure that the RAM isn't limiting the overclocking. But if you can run stably with both the CPU & RAM at 210MHz, be happy with it. The main problem is you have a board that wasn't designed with overclocking in mind & there's not much you can do about it.
If you want a decent GeForce 6150 mATX board that's a fair overclocker, you should look into the Foxconn 6150K8MA-8EKRS.
ok well i can get this board for 80 bucks from a friend, is this a better overclocker, i know it wont fit in my case but i have an old very ugly case lol that will accomedate it, so i would like to know if this will overclock better. ASUS A8N-E
