Hi,
Ok now i'm really confused;
I built myself a system about 2 month's ago:AMD Athlon XP Mobile 2500+
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
1GB Kingston DDR400
160GB Western Digital
GeForce FX 5900XT 128MB
450Watt PSU
Hauppauge WinTV TV-CardI've had crashes with this system as long as i've had it; It just randomly reboot's while playing games or just when surfing on the internet, Blue screen says (mostly) it has something to do with nv4_disp.dll
So i uninstalled and reinstalled windows and VGA drivers, but didn't help.
Then i troubleshooted the whole system and tried both of my 512MB memory stick's into 3 different computers, run it in memtest and even let it test by a local computerstore and they gave no problems or errors at all so it can't be my memory!!
So it could then only be the CPU (it's overclocked to 3200+(11x200MHz)) But it also seem to crash at stock (11x166 or 14x133)
I raised Vcore from 1.575 to 1.875 but still crashing.
So now i returned the CPU to the factory and borowed an old AMD from a friend to use while my CPU is gone, he said it's supposed to run at 1.8GHz.
I put the CPU in but it wouldn't boot into Windows, i could come into BIOS tough but strangly when it comes to the part when you should see the windows loading-logo, it gives a EXCEPTION message with lots of numbers in it:S:S wtf??
So then i played with the CPU speeds in the bios a little but nothing worked, then i tried playing with Vcore but noticed that with this CPU i can only choose bitween 1,750v and 1,850v! and before i could choose from 1,575v to 1,875! how is this possible..?So.. i didn't got the borowd CPU working so then i searched for my old comp witch got an Athlon Tbird 1.4GHz and placed it into my system..
With this CPU i CAN boot into windows but when i want to play a game it directly crashes... why?????
Also the Vcore settings were still the same, i could still only choose bitween 1,750v and 1,850v :(Can anybody plz help me..?? i really dont know what to do anymore:(
ThanX in advance!

Ok, i would definetly check your video card, and put a different one in there, cause from what it sounds like, it might be that.
Run only the vid card, cpu, hdd, and try each of the sticks of ram in each of the slots (i know you said that you already tested your ram, but you have not tested each slot on your motherboard).
Did anything unusual happen to the installation then second time you installed windows?? Anything that you can remeber.
There might be an issue between the WIN card and the VID card, so check to see if there are any conlfilicts anywere.

nv4_disp.dll is an nvidia graphics card driver component.Which drivers are you using?

Sounds like your Vid Card isnt compatible with the system, your probably in need of a patch to fix that problem.
Also if you've built a desktop model the AMD Athlon XP Mobile 2500+ is probably going to give you a few problems since they are designed for laptops and not desktops.
Question? When you built the system, did you buy a new motherboard and compatible processor, or is it piece-milled together from another computor?

I don't know a solution for you problem but I also had trouble with nv4_disp.dll.
Maybe it will help to describe my problem and the strange solution!I had a Geforce2 MX (Asus V7100 true, 32MB) on my old Asus P2B Slot1 board and a Celeron 733@1100 or 1232MHz (the 1232MHz OC was stable with games but crashed in encoding and stuff like that). I had WinME and Win98SE running in double boot on it without any problems for years. But the system got slower because of too much stuff installed and so on. I decided to reinstall it with Win98 and WinXP.
I installed both 98 and XP and the drivers I had on it before. And as soon as I tried to rn any version of Mechwarrior4 (incl. Black Knight extension and Mercenaries) suddenly it crashed and rebootet. I tried all graphic drivers I found, reinstalled the OS dozens of times but nothing helped.
But I found an old backup from the first installation of my 98 and ME system even before installing the graphic driver. I restored that backup and everthing worked well! And now:
About a year ago I got a new graphic card for my main system and swap down the older cards. With a Geforce2 GTS 32MB (Asus V7700 Deluxe) everthing worked fine and I installed 98 and XP as planned before. Still runs without any trouble.
And the Geforce2 MX got in the system my nephew uses for gaming if he's here and there it als works without the smallest trouble.
For me it looks like there was a major problem between the Geforce2 MX and my P2B and somehow I got around it in the original installation.
But that installation was still done with an old Riva TNT card and I just changed them because the NVidia drivers worked with them too.
So maybe you give this a try:
Borrow another Nvidia card from a friend. Every TNT, TNT2, Geforce or Geforce FX should be fine. Remove all the hardware that's not really needed for the first installation and deactivate all possible onboard components because it could be as simple as a the double use of an IRQ or memory address.
Now install Windows and first of the graphic card driver. Check if it works.
If it does make a backup!
Now put your FX5900XT back in and try again.
If it still works activate/install one component at a time and try again. Don't forget a backup if it works!Hopefully that way you find the problem or a setup that works!

Can't believe you're still struggling with this!
The other CPU that you had that you swore was supposed to run at 1.8Ghz is actually an Athlon Tbird 1100, 200FSB version. So you were cranking the sh!t out of it...it's no wonder it wouldn't work! It's supposed to run at 11 x 100mhz @ 1.75v & should have a locked multiplier. You would have saved yourself a lot of trouble had you looked at the model number before you installed it, instead of taking someone's word for it.
OK, so now you say you have a 1400 Tbird. Are you sure this time? Did you look at the model number? Is it the 100mhz (200FSB) version or the 133nhz (266FSB) version?
Have you read thru your manual? I'll take a look at it & post back. I know the setup is very similar to my board, my guess is you're overlooking something.
Asus A7N8X-X

512mb PC3200
Ti4200/8X 128mb
WDC 60GB

OK...had a quick look at the manual. Use basic settings to get your rig up & running. If you do change the BIOS settings, only change one thing at a time...if you change 4 or 5 things at once, then run into stability problems, you won't know which one caused the problem.
Here's a few observations:
1. You are aware that there's a FSB jumper right next to the chipset, correct? When set to 1-2, it's for 266/333/400FSB, when set to 2-3, it's for 200FSB only. This should have been changed to enable you to run the 1100 Tbird & it may need to be changed for the 1400 Tbird, if it's the 200FSB version.
2. Make sure the CPU fan is plugged into the proper header, which is near the edge of the board, at the end of the RAM slots.
3. For the System Performance setting, don't use "Aggressive", use "Optimal" or the "User Defined" setting.
4. Use "Optimal" for your Memory Timing.
5. Make sure Spread Spectrum is disabled.
6. Use the proper vcore setting. Only overvolt if absolutely necessary (when overclocking)
7. Set the Aperture size to 256mb.
8. Lock the AGP Frequency at 66mhz.
Your manual explains all these settings & there are a whole lot more that I'm not gonna get into. What BIOS version are you running? The latest version (1013) corrects problems associated with RAM (patch new Samsung DDR400 DRAM to fix enter WinXP problem).

Ok.. i now know it's the vid card!
I just uninstalled all VGA drivers and putted in a GeForce2 MX 32MB and installed drivers for it (newest nvidia geforce drivers 66.93) and no problems anymore!
So what do you think now?
Is my vidcard dammaged or just uncompatible with my board?
btw, Yes, all components are new and bought at the same time.

Did you have the FX 5900XT plugged into the PSU?

Now just one question.
Is it possible that you run a too high PCI/AGP fequence because of your overclocking?Check that because a too high AGP may be the reason the FX5900XT will not work properly while the much more simple 2MX will still work!

Well.. the AGP ferquence is locked at 66Mhz so that's no problem.
Yesterday i tested my card in my dad's comp and there it was working normall but in PCI-mode, (my dad's mobo cant support AGP 4x/8x)
Then i placed it back into my comp and it was crashing again.. tried AGP 4x and 8x but both seem to crash..

?????????????????????????????????
How can you test an AGP card in PCI mode?If your dad's pc has AGP you surely mean something different but if it has no AGP how could you test it.
Is it AGP 2x???
If jes you're lucky because you could have blown both the card and the mainboard into orbit! If your dad has a pci graphic card and the bios was still set to pci first then you bootet with the pci graphic!
So can you give a better description what you did ???

Well..
my dad has a AGP only not so fast.. with The Nvidia task mannager i can set the AGPspeed to PCI-mode, 4x or 8x, mine is set to 8x but in my dad's comp it can only be set to PCI-mode.

Normally you should be able to set it at least to 66MHz because that's the standard AGP clock!
The problem is that brings us back to the beginning.
Try another molex power connector than the one you used before. Just a guess because I had a failed power connector just a while ago.
BTW, in my graphic card manual they write you should use a power connetor of a cable pair that's not used for anything else!
