i have an aspire laptop, with an amd s1 processor socket. will every cpu made for that socket be compatable with my laptop? i want to upgrade to a turion ultra x2 2.4ghz, can i just swap the two, is it that simple, or not?

what's the purpose of this upgrade? A dual core is only beneficial if run apps that take advantage of it. The difference in clock speed between the CPUs you mentioned is only 200MHz. I doubt it would be very noticeable, especially if you have Cool'n'Quiet enabled.
You're gonna have to somehow find out if that CPU is compatible with the motherboard. Then you'll have to find out how to dismantle the laptop to gain access to the CPU.
