I have been reading about unlock the
multipier on Athlon XP chips through pins
shorting rather than bridge linking, does
any one know if this will work on my chip :
Serial number : 500101661972U ?
Also does anyone know of a good and cheap
(in that order) HSF for me?
Thanks in advance!

If it's an XP Barton, you're outta luck...they are "super-locked" & there is no way to unlock them.
If it's an XP Tbred, you "may" be able to unlock thru pin shorting. I've never tried this myself but was gonna experiment on an old Duron I have laying around. Here's a link that'll explain how & what pins to short. I think I'd short the socket, rather than the pins:

As for a cheap HSF...I've had very good results with the CoolerMaster Aluminum w/copper base plate:

Asus A7N8X-X
1800+ Tbred @ 1600mhz pathetic
8.0 x 200mhz
512mb PC3200Soyo KT600 Dragon+ v2.0
2500+ Sempron @ 1838mhz
10.5 x 175mhz
768mb PC2700

If it's already installed & running, this will tell you:

Asus A7N8X-X

2500+ Sempron @ 1838mhz

If it's not installed, just look at the model number:
AXDA2800DKV3D = 2800+ Tbred
AXDA2800DKV4D = 2800+ Barton
Basically the difference is either the 3 or 4 before the letter "D". The number is for the size of L2 cache:
3 = 256KB (tbred)
4 = 512KB (barton)Asus A7N8X-X

10.5 x 200mhz @ 1.80v

Hi Jam,
I have checked and I believe I have a
Barton.
:-(
It seems I am stuck with the 12.5X
multiplier.
Thanks for your help!
Simon

A good place to compare hsf's:

I have the hcc-02 cooler master and works great.
