Hi, sorry in advance if I posted this in the wrong place; it's my first post.

Anyways, the problem is that my computer is running slugish all of the sudden. My physical memory stands at 70% and higher - but my CPU usage is low. - See screenies at bottom.

It isn't a virus (I hope), I've run Mcafee and Spybot Search + Destroy and both didn't find anything.

i don't know what is wrong.. two days ago everything was perfectly fine - I was playing WOW with smooth performance rates.. but now I can barely load it because it takes forever, and my computer freezes from time to time. Applications run slow (like IE when it opens).

Even when I close all applications, and put my computer on basic vista instead of premium, it still is sluggish.

I've already defraged and disk-cleaned up everything but the problem still exists.

What could cause such a sudden thing to happen? Is there anything I can do?

thanks!

Oh wait.. thanks to looking at my system info my RAM is all the sudden at 510, when it used to be 1000+ something. What happened?

UNless you have an actual video card, a portion of the memory is being used on the integrated graphics. I have no idea how much RAM you have installed or if you even have integrated graphics or not, but I do know that 510MB RAM isn't enough memory for Vista.

Also, in the 2nd "screenie", lower left corner, you have 68 processes running? I'm running XP but for comparison, I have only 33 processes.

Hey, yeah sorry I forgot to mention - I do have a video card installed.

GeForce 8500 GT <<

Maybe that's where the problem is? I dunno, what do you think?

EDIT: About the processes, It says 68.. but at the moment I only count like 34 in the processes tab in Task Manager :S

Well; if you're using 2 512Mb sticks of memory, I'd guess one of 'em took a dump or needs to be reseated. What amount of memory does the machine tell you it has when you start the pc?

Well, I only have one stick of memory..well really none if you think about it technically. The video card that I bought comes with an extra 512 MB and that allowed me to get 1 gig of ram.

Right now my Ram is at 510.. so I'm thinking that my video card is just having problems maybe? But if it was wouldn't the graphics and stuff be messed? I dunno lol.

Should I try uninstalling then re-installing?

The memory on the video card is strictly for the graphics...it has nothing to do with the system RAM. You still only have 510MB (probably 512MB) & 512MB is NOT enough to run Vista very well.

I don't understand how you were able to do that (get RAM amount up to 1.5GB) considering you said you only have one stick of RAM? There are no 1.5GB sticks. Either I'm not understanding you or you're not explaining things correctly....

most of the info I found on his machine, indicates it came with 1gb installed (2x512).

poster seems to think the graphics card adds to this. If he means by "uninstalled andre-installed my graphics card ", that he physically removed it & reseated it, maybe he bumped the ram and reseated that by dumb luck?
