Solved phenom2 x3 b77 on gigabyte ga-970a-d3 wont boot

Specs: Windows 7
upgraded from athlon2 x2 to a phenom2 x3 on a gigabyte GA-970A-D3 mobo, and now it wont boot. no beeps no nothing . I know all the ram is good, 16gb. im running windows 7 sp1. ive checked the compatibility list at giga. that particular processor isn't listed. is it compatible? or is it a bad cpu?

It's not compatible which is why it's not listed. I don't understand why you bought a CPU that's not compatible with your board???

Maybe you bought the CPU before you checked the compatibility list? Well that wasn't very smart.

You didn't state which board revision you have (there are several), but if you don't already have the latest BIOS version, I suggest reinstalling the Athlon & flashing to the latest & greatest available. You may even wanna go with the Beta. After the BIOS is successfully flashed, try swapping the CPUs again. No guarantee it will work, but it's worth a shot. The B77 is a business class CPU but may be identified differently if the CPU ID isn't included in the BIOS update.
