I recieved a Pentium w/mmx tech and need some pointers. Not sure on mhz but the last 3 #'s says 166 so just like a Pentium i assume this is only a 166. Also, do i need a special mobo to run this. Is it possibale to over clock this to 200mhz. This chip is like plastic and would it hold being over clocked?

Yes, that would be a 166MMX. You should be able to clock to 200 (3 x 66) without any problems. Possibly even 233 (1.5/3.5 x 66). If your mobo supports 75mhz FSB, try 187.5(2.5 x 75) or 225 (3 x 75). The Pentium MMX series doesn't have the major heat issues of todays CPUs. A HSF & thermal paste are required, but you don't need anything exotic or expensive.

From what Im reading, you recieved the processor, but dont have a motherboard or anything for it. If youre doing this for fun, then it doesnt matter, but if youre planning on using the machine you may just want to spring for a new proc as well and get a better motherboard solution, etc.

100's of them? WOW! Here's a suggestion for ya. If you have a socket 7 board that auto detects the CPU, try a few on them & see what you come up with. You may find some of them recognized as 233s. That's because Intel was having such a good run of 233 chips back in the day, that instead of making 166s & 233s, they would just mislabel the 233s & sell them as 166s. Once word of this got out to the geek community, everyone started buying 166s at a cheaper cost & just clocking them up to 233! I have a 1/2 dozen or so of the 166s myself & tested my theory on a rig I was repairing for a friend. His board had the autodetect feature, so I tried my CPUs to see what would happen. Out of 5 that I tested, one was recognized as 233.
