I found a Pentium Overdrive 83MHz processor at the used electronics shop today. It says on the box that it's designed to give "80486 systems with a 33MHz I/O bus and Type 3 PGA socket" a boost to near-Pentium performance. My 33MHz DX meets those requirements. But when I put the processor in and turn it on, I get nothing except a really strange sound. Kinda like "AAARRRRRRR!". The noise starts off very loud, and gradually decreases until it can't be heard anymore. It's not even coming from the PC speaker (the PC speaker is disconnected). I've got the bus speed jumper set to 33MHz, and the other jumper set so that the board will use the socketed CPU rather than the soldered CPU. Is there anything else I have to do? Possibly a BIOS update? All I get now is that very scary noise. It starts up normally when I remove the Overdrive CPU and reset the jumper to use the soldered CPU. JBoy - I believe has given up in frustration.... Though I feel your problem is using the proprietary IBM PC, use a "real AT 486 MoBo and it may be OK!!

aww, that's a shame! He really knew his Old PC stuff. Indeed, this IBM PC's motherboard does look very non-standard. However, it says right on the socket itself "Intel Overdrive". Is there any sort of bios update you can find on it?

I looked at those two articles, and can't seem to grip on why my Pentium Overdrive won't work, lol. The processor fits in the socket, and "Overdrive Ready" is printed on the socket.
