The Pentium D 805 may be a value CPU, but it certainly ain't a good bargain for gamer and definitely not in your case if indeed you are upgrading from a Celeron D (unsure of your exact Celeron D).

As you may have heard the dual core CPU's aren't the best option for gaming at this time since majority of games are not yet being coded to take advantage of the extra core. However one thing that's clear is your need for more memory (RAM), you should at least double up on that.

If ure gonna get a budget CPU, u might as well get a Sempron 3000+ or higher. Those are quite fast for budget CPUs. You can also overclock those to amazing speeds.

i have a celeron D 340 at 2.93ghz. What about a pentium 4 524 or the 511. I dont want a sempron because of the 256kb l2 cache.

Funny you say that, because a Semperson 64 3400+ outbenchmarks 3/4 of games, then all the processors you just listed. Even an Semperon 64 3100+ will outbenchmark in 3/4 then all the processors you just listed.

Here is proof.

Don't let the 256k L2 cache fool you. These processors aren't what you think in terms of outdated athlon processors, because they are not. Celerons are waterdown versions of pentiums because they are on the same core. Sempron 64's are diff they aren't on the same core as Athlon 64's, they are on a diff core altogether now.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ OC 2.7ghz
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 7800GT
SATA II 2x 200gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

Ideally a budget upgrade is something you do as a stop-gap measure in computing.

Making a trend out of it will hurt your pocket over time and aside from the delusional savings you are getting, perhaps the only thing you'll have to show are crippled relics (especially with Intel) that can't keep up and hard to resell because no one is eager to buy it from you.

Hold off and save up a little but if you are desperate, this is as real good it gets.

See... Semprons are awsome! I OCed mine to around 2.6GHz and let me tell ya... IT ROCKS for only $100 or less.
