Hey all, first time poster, long time reader...

ill start by listing my rig.

Asus m2nsli delux Mobo
Athlon 64 X2 4200+ AM2 socket
(2x512MB) PC6400 Corsair XMS
Geforce 7900 GTOC

so onto the reason why im posting... using the setup above all set as stock i noticed that my ram runs at a frequency of 270mhz on one module and 400mhz on another. so knowing that ram speed is determined by the fsb, mine being 200mhz my ram should be running at 400mhz right? so my question is why does one module run lower than the other? also would i benefit from changing the timings on the ram?

Thanks alot.

Err............what I see is the timing matrix for just one stick 512MB Corsair stick - notice it says Slot #1 under memory selection.

If you do have two identical Corsair module the matrix will be the same if you select Slot #2.

Looking at the left side under the MEMORY tab, it would appear that you have 2 x 512MB DDR2 running in dual channel mode at 368.4MHz with timings at 5-5-5-18.

On the right side under the SPD tab, you have the SPD info for just one of the sticks, showing what the pre-programmed timings would be for either 270MHz or 400MHz. But for whatever reason, you're running your RAM at 368.4MHz?

i didnt show slot 2 because it is an identicle module... should i only concern myself with the memory tab?... and yes its at 368mhz... but why? its rated for 800mhz and with my setup it hsould be running at 400? no? ill gladly submit for specs if needed
thanks

The SPD tab shows the info that's programmed into the EEPROM on the memory module. The memory tab shows what the memory is actually running at.

Why is it running at 368MHz? I don't know. You setup the BIOS...you tell us

thanks jam, wasnt sure of what the SPD tab actualy was until now.

its my understanding that DDR runs at twice the speed of the FSB or in my processors case the HTT, it is set at 200 by default which should give me a speed of 400MHz on my memory... in order to actualy acheive this speed i must increase the HTT to 220... ive looked through the bios numerous times and tested each module seperatley with no luck to suffice... sorry if i sound helpless, but posting here was my last resort after reading many articles. anyways thanks for for the help and dealing with me

Just so you know.

The memory controller on the A64 CPUs (DDR 400 on the old format & DDR2-800 capable on AM2) is actually integrated onto the processor rather than in the northbridge of the chipset, thus making it run at the same speed as the host processor.

Your RAM is fine...
PC6400 is supposed to run @ 400MHz, but its DDR so it actually runs @ 800MHz.

The reason its running @ 368,4 MHz is because you are probably using the 400MHz divider, & this is how it works:

for example: Your CPU is running @ 2210,2MHz (200,9 MHz x 11) and you're using a ram divider of 400.. (basicly the same as 2/1)
You take your multiplier and divide it by 2/1 which is 5,5 ,then you round this number off to the closest whole number which is 6.. then you take your total CPU ferq and divide it by this number.. so in this case that would be: 2210,2:6 = 368,36MHz

BTW, you can see in your CPUz memory tag the FSB:DRAM ratio.. which says "CPU/6".. this means your CPU ferq is divided by 6 and that your ram runs at this ferq, just like in the calculation above.

this seems to be what its running at so its fine.

Oh and btw, you should change your "Command Rate" (see CPUz) to 1T, which is much faster.
