Comment:
I have a ASUS A7NX8 Deluxe, which can handle FSB 400, with an AMD XP 2500 Barton. I have two sticks of 512MB PC2700 RAM. When I boot up, it says memory frequency is 166, single channel mode. Is this optimal? I thought PC2700 should run at 333. Thanks
Your settings are correct. The actual bus speed of PC2700 is 166MHz, but since it's DDR (double data rate), the speed is effectively doubled to 333.
If it's running in single channel mode & your board supports dual channel mode, you either have the RAM in the wrong slots, or they're not compatible enough to be run in dual channel mode.
You were right, I did have them in the wrong slots. I had them in the first two slots from left to right. But when I looked closer, I noticed that the 2nd and 3rd slot were the same color (blue). So I moved both sticks over to the blue slots and now it says dual channel mode. Thanks.
