pc does not have video output

Specs: Windows XP
compaq presario desktop does not boot up, all fans run, disk drive opens but have no video detected on monitor. monitor is good checked with laptop. tried swapping ram and just using one of the ram chips still not video.

Firstly, have you done any previous over-clocking to your CPU? Secondly, I had a similar problem. It turned out that my new CPU heat sink was pulling in too much power, reducing the amount of power to the GPU, resulting in no video display.

How can a heat sink pull to much power when a heat sink is just a solid piece of metal with no electrical connections at all.
