I need some help on my old pc. My old pc that I still use from time to time is a 550mhz K6-2 system. Today I noticed something that I have prob never noticed before in my BIOS on my PC Chips M587LMR mother board and that is the Core Voltage can drop as low was 2.0 volts and the board supports all the way up to 133mhz FSB. So this got me thinking about installing an old K6-2+ or K6-3+ 550mhz processor in it since my core voltage meets the K6-2+ and K6-3+ standards and try to overclock it to a 600mhz to really max this system out as one of the fastest Socket 7 PC's.

Now here is the question. Can I install a K6-2+ or a K6-3+ on my motherboard without running into a major problem?

Now this motherboard does have the last Bios update on it, the 11/26/00 update and eve though this motherboard doesn't say it can support it does have everything to support it expect for the Power Now! feature in the Bios.

This is going to be just one of those hobbies to see how far you can take something to its limits.

You should be able to run the K6-2+ or K6-3, but I wouldn't count on running it at 133MHz...you certainly could give it a shot though. That board has several drawbacks...it only supports up to ATA66, I don't believe it supports RAM speed above 100MHz, plus those old ALi chipsets were very poor performers.

And unless that BIOS date is a typo, there is a newer version:

Opps I meant 11/26/01.

I just just saying that the board does support 133mhz FSB. I will be happy if iut ran a K6-3+ 550mhz.
