Is it worth it to try and overclock a 2000 palomino? I finally looked up the specs on the chip, and it gave me pause to think. I'm worried that the chip doesn't have enough room to improve.

I don't play games, and right now I'm using it for average low-level stuff, but I'm going to start doing digital video editing this summer.

You're right it doesn't have much room. Might as well try 140 or a little higher on the fsb though.

Hey johnoh,

My other thread ran outta steam....

I'm now running my 1800+ at 1.68ghz (12 x 140 @ 1.65v) using WinME...but I can't run WinXP with any stability unless I lower the FSB to 100mhz. Bad RAM? I've tried several sticks in different configs & individually...they can't ALL be bad?

Reflashed BIOS...now running at 1.75ghz (12.5 x 140) & all is well...EXCEPT...my CPU is recognized as XP 2000+ on the boot screen...but as a Duron in WinME!

Here's what SANDRA says:

Duron
1.75ghz
model 2117 (est)
PR2559
generation 7th
revision/stepping 8/1(0)

What is going on here??

I'm running the burn-in wizard right now to see if it overheats or lockups up...it started at 39C....

jam - I'd try not to worry about the fact that Sandra it calling you a duron. As long as cpuid or cpu-z says your L2 cache is 256kb you are a tbred.

Since this issue is all oc related I think its voltage. Use mbm5 to monitor all your voltages using winme and winxp. Maybe you'll see a problem.

I have got a XP 2000+ (Palomino core) and without increasing the core voltage I have got it running absolutely stable at 1790mhz (12.5 x 143), roughly the equivelent of an XP 2200+. This is with "average" cooling.

"I have got it running absolutely stable at 1790mhz (12.5 x 143)"

that's what I meant.
