Hi everybody!
I have a question about my new P4B motherboard by Assus and my Intel P4 478. I just installed it two days ago and now it is giving me a warning of being overheated. When I first turn on the machine, the temperature is around 40C, ten minutes later it's up to 48C. What is the normal range? Thanks a lot, Nancy

Hi Nancy,
This is a little high really, especially if the machine is idle..Really you want an idle temp of about 34-36
and a full load temp of about 48-50I would buy a bigget better Heat sink and fan

Nancy, what source are you reading the temperature form? I have a P4 with MSI mobo and used msi pc alert to evaluate temp, fan speed etc. After a format and OS reinstall the readings were consistently different than prior readings and after reinstalling the software it worked properly again.
With that said, the P4's run much cooler that AMD systems and I(P4 1.9 on MSI Ultra ARU) typicall have idle readings of 13c for cpu and 34c for computer with Intel retail fan and heatsink. Most test have determined that no aftermarket or additional cooling is required for the P4 other than the retail setup and additional fans should not significantly change cpu temp. So yes, it appears you are a bit warm- check out Intels website, they provide good info on temp.
JRF

Hi Nancy,
Not sure what JRF is measuring, but if he has an idle CPU temp of 13 deg. C, he must have his PC stuck in the refrigerator!!!!!
Even at first turn on, the CPU would be equal to ambient JRF, come on!!!!!!!! Nancy, I'm running a P4 1.6A at 2133MHz, with a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ (best cooler for the P4 in my opinion), and I'm at 43 deg. C idle and 52 deg. C full load. If you are not breaking 55 deg. C, don't worry about it.

hi there,
I've a P4 2A and my T° is :
45°C Idle
53°C Full load (Seti@Home)
Chassis :
36°C
Ambiant :
25°C
Values given by MSI PC Alert 3

Hi, You think you have a problem, I just bought a MSI 845G MAX MB and P4 2gig, idle temp is around 125F and under heavy load, 165f. Checked Intels homepage and max temp is 55C, 125F. I think the thermal sensors on the motherboards are not very reliable. If you have a retail processor, don't worry, it has a 3 year warranty, Good Luck
