P4 retention problem

OS: Windows XP
CPU/Ram: Celeron 2600/256

I just purchased an Abit IC7-G motherboard and an Intel Celeron 2600. After I installed the processor, I placed the heatsink and fan on top andlocked the Heatsink Supporting Base in place. But everytime I attempt to push down the retaining clips, the Heatsink Supporting Base pops out of the motherboard. What's wrong?

Are you saying the "black retention bracket" came off of the board?

It's rather impossible without breaking anything.

It's completely possible, because it happened to me! The motherboard is fine, nothing wrong with it
