Hello:
I was wondering if I could Use Pentium’s 4 2.0 GHz microprocessors socket478 into existing Celeron machines board’s socket478.
The Celeron boards are dell OptiplexGX60 that are using microprocessors of 2.0GHz socket478. The Pentium 4 microprocessors are from dell as well using 2.0GHz socket478.
The reason for doing this is because some (145) Pentiums 4 motherboards are defective, mean while the Celeron machines were in storage because they are not that fast. All the Pentium 4 microprocessors are working because we’ve tested it in a ASUS motherboard. So I would like to migrate the P4 microprocessors into the Celeron machines.
I’ve checked the microprocessors operating voltages and they are similar. The cache from the Celeron is 128 and cache from P4 is 512. The FSB is 400 for both microprocessors.
Thanks a lot for reading.

Thanks everyone for reading, I’ve successfully implemented P4 microprocessor into Celeron boards. No over heating system stable under windows and Linux.

Looks like you've already found out that P4s work fine in any socket 478 board with similar FSB support.
The reason for this is that the Celeron *is* a Pentium 4 which didn't pass some quality tests at Intel. They were probably unstable with all of the cache (512K) enabled, but worked fine with three quarters of the cache disabled.
These crippled Pentium 4s are then marketed as Celerons, and they plug into any Pentium 4 board.

I HAVE AN ASUS A6000R SERIES(MOTHERBOARD) WITH CELERON M 380 SOCKET 479(PROCESSOR)[LAPTOP], BUT I WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE THE PROCESSOR WITH MY PERSONAL(DESKTOP)PROCESSOR PENTIUM 4 2.4 SOCKET 478;, IS THIS POSSIBLE TO WORK WITH MY LAPTOP?.....
desktop s478 pentium 4 2.4 to laptop s479 motherboard, possible?

Socket 478 into 479 cannot work, because desktop microprocessor power is 1.5 to 1.7, and laptop power is lower that 1.5. In addition socket 749 is mobile design which means the pin’s that goes into the holes of the socket are thinner that the regular desktop pins in (some cases).
The most important here was what I’ve
mentioned above about the voltages. Thanks for reading.

are these machines being used for office type work? how much ram do the celeron's have & how much do the disabled P4's have? How much more can the celerons take and how many open slots do they have?

Is for your porpose or asking question ?
