P4 - Prescott Way Underperforming

Specs: Windows XP
I just installed a new Sparkle NVidia 8500gt pci card at 256MB internal and have been having problems with fps in many games. Rest of system is a P4 Prescott at 3.2GHz, 1Gig of DDR2 RAM on 2 sticks, all drivers are up to date.

In an effort to benchmark the card I ran 3DMark03 and was shocked to see my CPUMarks down at 86. My total was 5011, so this says to me something is very very wrong with how my CPU is set up and I have no clue how to fix it...Suggestions are welcome.

As a side note, I tried running PCI Latency Tool 3.1 and it doesn't list anything but my network card as having a bus or latency other than 0. Not sure if this is relavent.

Do you mean a PCI-express card? The 8500GT isn't very good...what card did you have before the 8500GT?

Other than that, check the BIOS settings to make sure the CPU is clocked properly. And if SpeedStep (aka EIST) is enabled, disable it. Check your CPU temp while you're in the BIOS too...you *may* be a victim of thermal throttling.
