P4 3Ghz CPU temperature?

Subject: P4 3Ghz CPU temperature?
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2
CPU/Ram: P4 3Ghz Prescott
Comment:
I recently upgraded my system to a P4 3Ghz Prescott. It seems to be running really hot and very volatile (the temp fluctuates very fast) compared to my old P4 2.4Ghz. I am using a Volcano 7+ heatsink. My temperature ranges from (47C - 65C). It runs at 47C when idle and 65C with full load. The core voltage also seems to be high at 1.35. Is this normal? Thank you for your response.

Those temps do sound high. Is yours the Northwood (3.0C) or Prescott (3.0E) core? From what I understand, the Prescott core tends to run hotter, but 47c/65c still seems rather high. I am running a 2.6C (Northwood)overclocked to 3.01 @ 1.675 v, and my temps rarely go over 55c, even after an hour of gaming. You may have to check and even reseat your HSF. (BTW, are you using stock cooling?)

Those Temps are the exact same on my P4 2.8Ghz @ 3.11Ghz, Mines been running fine at those temps for over 6 months. Mine also changes temp really quick. From like 52-60 in under 10secs. I'm just saying it's not really worth worrying about. There offcourse is something you can do about it, that is check your heatsink installation and make sure the fan is at least running over 3000RPM.

i must of found a pretty good cooling solution for my 2.8e prescott...Abit EQ shows my cpu at 30-35 at idle and 53 at load

i have the thermaltake jungle 512 HSF w/ AS5
2 intake fans in lower front
1 exhaust "blowhole" on top
1 exhaust in rear
1 additional fan on a zalman fan bracket near a cut out in the side panel
power supply has 2 fans

did some major cable management, moved what i could off to the sides and ran a couple of the smaller wires under the motherboard

my Vcore is at stock settings of 1.35, so yours at the same is probably right
