Hi, i need help.I have just installed a p4 2.8ghz on a MSI 845PE Max2 motherboard and put win xp on. when i turn on and look in the system menu in xp it says that i have a 2.8 chip on board but it is only running at 1.6ghz! I have tried changing the fsb speed in the bios but won't change. I have looked on the motherboard and there are no jumpers to change either. Any ideas how to get it working at full,MSI just ignored me.

What do you have in the BIOS?...FSB/Multiplier

Are you sure it's running at 1.6GHz & not 1.86GHz?
It sounds like you have the 800FSB (200MHz x 4) version of the 1.8 which has a multiplier of 14x, but you're running it at 533FSB (133MHz x 4). So either you have to change the FSB in the BIOS, or your board only supports 533FSB.
14 x 133MHz = 1862MHz

845PE does not support 800mhz P4 2.8.

The board says it should except a p4 2.8ghz.the chip is a 533fsb but when i run the fuzzy logic program it says 12 x 133(1596 mhz). i look in the bios, the fsb settings run from 133 mhz to 233 mhz. when u try to alter the settings to a higher mhz it does nothing.

If your multiplier is 12x, you have one of the following:
12 x 100 (400FSB) = 1200MHz
12 x 133 (533FSB) = 1600MHz
12 x 200 (800FSB) = 2400MHz
Since the multiplier is locked, it looks like you have a 2.4GHz/800FSB CPU, but since your board only supports 533FSB, it's running at 1.6GHz

If your multiplier is 12x, where does 2.8Ghz come in, maybe you do not have a 2.8Ghz P4 afterall.

I was thinking H/T enabled was causing it but 1.6 + 1.6 would end up being 3.2ghz.
