I built a new comp a few days ago and installed the HSF that came with the P4 cpu in a box, then i realized i didnt remove the protection thing at the bottom on the heatsink. I removed the HSF and installed it again using thermal paste because the pad was destroyed. My CPU temp just hit 62 before when i was Playing a game and the temperature alarm went. This has got me very worried. what can i do ?

If the processor is from Retail Pack, there is no protective thing at the bottom of the sink. There is, however, a layer of thermal pad which you don't peel out.

Hope you gave it a good cleaning before you applied thermal paste .... and not too much of it.

It is pretty normal for a 2.6C to hit 62C when playing game. It has a max Tcase temp of 75C (top center of the processor).

It is you who set the alarm when to go off (in BIOS setting).
It is recommended that you have intake and exhaust fans. Keeping board/system temp to below 35C whenever possible and making sure your power supply is rated for your system.
