I purchased a ECS K7S5A SKT A (SIS 735) ATX DDR/SDR With Audio, Coolermaster DP5-6I31C Socket A Cooler upto 1.4GHz Athlon & XP 1900+ and AMD ATHLON-XP 1800+ 266 FSB

I have had serious problem with getting the chip to run at full speed. Its currently running at 1.1 ghz. I have installed this properly and still lost to the reason its not running at full speed.

I went into the bios and set the CPU speed to 133/133. (CPU PnP setup) This then changes the chip and recognises it as 1800+. The computer runs and I get to Windows. After a short while the chip cuts out and my Pc restarts. This has to be due to the temperature. I downloaded a program called hmonitor and it was showing my CPU Temp to around 85 degree’s C when it’s running at full load at full capacity.. Even now at 1.1 gig the Temp is around 61 Degree’s.

I went to the ECS website and read the FAQ. It said that if there was a XP sticker next to the CPU socket then it was the V3.0 Motherboard. However it wasn’t until now I downloaded a program called HWINFO. This then told me the motherboard was version 1.0 and according to the ECS website V1.0 does not support XP Chips.

I Emailed ECS got a automated reply, emailed the Active Email address and never received a reply. The FAQ did not solve my problem. So I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on the problem.

As stated above it is the correct fan and the heat sink is placed on properly

Thanks in Advance.

the HSF you have is marginal for your cpu. get a bigger one thats rated for 2000+ or better. I recomend the Thermaltake Volcano 7. I use it on my XP1800 in the ECS k7s5a. My temps never get higher then 50c when i'm editing video.

The version 1 K7S5A does support XPs if you update the BIOS. any recent BIOS will work, even if ECS says its for rev 3 mobos

i have the same board, but running 1900+. i use a thermaltake9 heatsink and fan and idle temps are 40deg celcius and 46deg full load. (this is using the thermal sensor)

definitely upgrade your heatsink and fan.
