What have you tried so far? Where do you run into problems?

CPU External Clock = 250Mhz
Multiplier = 8x
HTT = 3x
CPU Vcore = 1.45v or more if needed
AGP/PCI = 66/33
CPU:Mem = 1:1.66 250Mhz EC -> 207.5Mhz DDR
Memory voltage = +0.1v

CPU = 2000Mhz (Likely to achieve)

CPU External Clock = 300Mhz
Multiplier = 8x
HTT = 2x
CPU Vcore = 1.55v or more if needed
AGP/PCI = 66/33
CPU:Mem = 1:2 300Mhz EC -> 200Mhz DDR
Memory voltage = stock

CPU = 2400Mhz (Very unlikely to achieve)

Also watch out for your temperatures under load and make sure you stay below 60C full load during winter times...

Unless we know the motherboard model, we cannot help you much. If your board allows all options that TMP-Man has used to give you a solution, then just follow it. If you run in to problems, post back here.

If you board offers not all of the above options, then your o/c potential may be restricted.

I'm doing the exact same as the original poster.

The nforce3-A mobo gives the option for oc up to 250Mhz but i hit instability at 232mhz which means i am only getting a max of 1.86Ghz from the Sempron 2800+.
I've got an ancient PSU in there from a 2001 machine which is 300W could that be the problem?
I've got a 7600 GS GPU/Single CD Drive/Single HDD also drawing power.

Or is it likely that the CPU isn't coping because i'm using the factory supplied heatsink and fan? any ideas would be much appreciated.

Definitely PSU. I've just upgraded to Tagan 580W. With crappy (underclocked) RAM and a DFI lanpart (nf3) I'm cruising at 285Mhz FSB where only 257Mhz was possible before.

I get some weird chipset instability any higher (disconnected SATA controller comes back by itself and crashes) but the northbridge is incredibly hot. There's no fan on this lanparty mobo. Chipset is juiced +0.1v but I might need to go higher.
