Hey, i just recently got my new pc and have had it for a week, im looking to try a bit of overclocking on it and i now the basics but still need alot of HELP, so here are my specs

AMD Athlon X4 620 2.6GHz quad core
AMD TA790GX A3 mobo
ATI radeon HD4850 512mb ddr4
2GB DDR3 1333MHz (looking to another 2g)
550W PSU Sli / xfire ready

i've seen reviews of the cpu and people have clocked it to 3.4GHz, im looking to get 3GHz on the dot with normal case cooling, Right now my temps are well under 50c when idle and a max of 53c when under load which should be fine.

also if i can clock my 4850 or my ddr3 ram a little bit please say so. please explain step by step what to do when clocking anything such as my cpu, ram and gpu so i dont make mistakes.

i know this is a trial and error thing but im more than patient to mess around.

To hit 3.0GHz, all you need to do is increase the reference clock from 200MHz to 230MHz. However, doing so will have a domino effect on the RAM, HyperTransport bus, PCIe, etc., so you *may* have to change those settings to compensate.

I haven't looked at your board's manual so I don't know which settings you have available, but here are a few generic recommendations. Always overclock manually...if there's some sort of menu with pre-configured overclock choices, disable it & configure the settings yourself:

- disable Cool 'n' Quiet
- enable ACC (Advanced Clock Calibration)
- lock the PCIe at 100MHz
- disable all Spread Spectrum options
- manually configure the RAM timings & voltage as per the manufacturer's specs. Do NOT use AUTO.
- increase the reference clock in increments of 5-10MHz at a time, save the settings, reboot & test for stability after each increase.

Use a program such as CPUZ to check your CPU & memory settings. Use a program such as OCCT to stress test the configuration for stability.

Thnx jam, i done it today and got a successful overclock of
3.00Ghz, ran OCCT for a hour and was all fine.

But before i tried to oc this pc i went on my old AMD rig to
practice a little and know that if something goes wrong it won't
be a problem, so i went around searching in the BIOS and
before oc'ing anything i looked at the cpu temps, it was at 69-
70 c on idle!!, then after a while of searching the net i relised
that my vcore voltages was to high so i droped in from 1.5 to
1.4, checked the temps and again it was still at 69-70c on
idle. To make this worse, on load the cpu temps are 85c. This pc has been running fine for 4 years now and only
relised now that the temps are so high in the BIOS and currently there's still nothing wrong with this pc, runs fine and stable all the time, even under load but these temps are just making me worry.

Whats wrong with my CPU here? my case temp is 43c, could it be my BIOS is messed up? or could something else cause this?

the cpu is a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ at 2.21 GHZ, i want to
clock this as well

Just was reading a few things on my amd newcastle cpu and
found out that if its paired with a msi board the temps are 20c
lower than what the BIOS shows which is a problem on msi's
side

but anyway i decided just to clock my gpu on this build, got my
Geforce 7800 GS to 465 core clock, 705 memory clock from a
420 core clock, 630 memory clock, temps are around 50c, can i
go higher?
