hi,
after using the same cpu for 2 years now i'm thinking its time to overclock it a bit to speed things up. But this will be my first attempt on overclocking a cpu and i want to be sure i'm not doing anything wrong.
i have;
Intel P4 2.4Ghz processor (mPGA-478)
Asus p4p8x motherboard
2x 512mb ddramand after some readings i found out that power supply is also important but i don't know how exactly to find out my current power, all i know is i don't have any additional power supply. So if someone could explain how to find that out and help me with overclocking my cpu to average without ruining it :D .
My friend told me that my motherboard has a special overclocking thingy that helps with overclocking and it resets to default if system becomes unstable. He also told me that i could easily overclock it over 3.0Ghz without any problems. But still i want to figure how much i can or should overclock my cpu without overclocking it too much, without getting noises or making it way too hot, so i haven't really touched the overclocking options yet. any info and help is appreciated. thanksoh and please let me know if you need more information about my system.

If you have the cash to buy another processor when you cook this one go ahead. But if you have that kind of cash, why not just buy a faster processor and run at the appropriate settings?
Overclocking is silly at best and dangerous in the hands of a newbie.
You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users
