Hi,
I just upgraded my PC with these part and I want to overclock it to 3GHz
RAM http://www.canadacomputers.com/main...
CPU http://www.canadacomputers.com/main...
Motherboard http://www.canadacomputers.com/main...

I found some info on the internet that says that its very easy to overclock the E4600 to 3GHz but i tried everything and couldn't get it to even 2.5 GHz. So please help me out on how to do this.

Give us some more infomation.

We need your motherboard infomation. that would greatly help.

Use Cpu-z it's free.

I can give you some basic settings.

You say you have DDR2 800 which runs ar 400mhz.

Your cpu Freq is 200mhz

The multiplier is 11x

11x 200mhz = 2.2ghz which is your defualt processor speed.

The FSB is 800mhz quad pump 4 x 200mhz = 800mhz

What you need to do is get the FSB:DRAM Ratio @ 1:1

Raise the Cpu Freq to 275mhz x 11 mutiplier = 3ghz

Lower the Ram Freq to 275mhz as well.

This will give you a DRAM:FSB of 1:1

and an overclock of 3ghz.

Should be fairly simple. Lower the RAM speed to DDR2-400, then raise the CPU frequency to 250MHz. The CPU will then run at 3.0GHz & the RAM *should* be in sync.

@ Cobra_R,

You must have come back & editted because that wasn't there earlier ;-)

The link he posted has the CPU listed as 2.4GHz (12 x 200MHz) which is why I suggested setting the freq to 250MHz

You definitely have prime overclock components in the RAM, CPU & MOBO. I can't see why you ought not to be able to crank that system past 3GHz easily. For instance, I have an E4300 & it's always been clocked at 3.06GHz (340 x 9) on my Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3.

Do you have a crappy PSU?

@ jam lol yeah i edited it as soon as you were posting yours. When I finished editing it i was like what the heck? Since when did jam post. :)

Oh ok cause i googled the multiplier and i saw that the E4500 had an 11x multiplier, but then saw that he didn't have an E4500, but a E4600 instead

Thank You guys i got it at 3GHz
with these setting
Clock Ratio 12X
CPU 250 Mhz
DRam Freq 250Mhz
Ram 500Mhz (Couldn't make it 400Mhz)
FSB:DRAM Ratio @ 1:1 checked with CPU-z

Excellent! Well done! You got it right! lol.

Just don't get confused by the RAM DDR numbers. Your CPU & RAM are both running at 250MHz frequency...that gives you the 1:1 ratio.

However, if you prefer to work with data rates rather than frequencies, the ratio you want is 2:1. Right now, your CPU is at 1000MHz FSB (QDR) & RAM at 500MHz (DDR). That's 1000:500...in other words, 2:1.

Another overclock possibility (if your board can handle it) would be to raise the CPU Freq even higher, but lower the CPU multi so that the overall CPU clock doesn't get unreasonably high.

For example:

CPU @ 10 x 300MHz = 3.0GHz w/1200MHz FSB (QDR)
RAM at 300MHz = 600MHz (DDR)

CPU @ 9 x 333MHz = 3.0GHz w/1333MHz FSB (QDR)
RAM at 333MHz = 667MHz (DDR)

EDIT: I just had a look at your board specs & it does officially support 1333MHz FSB, so the 2nd option above *should* be possible. You shouldn't have to change any memory settings, just reclock the CPU to 9 x 333MHz & the memory *should* stay in sync. You have memory setting at DDR2-400, correct?
