Hey ive had this system for about a year now and im looking to get some extra umph. Im not sure how to go about this, im a newb to this overclocking thing. I know some basics but i need help to determine the safest most effective way to overclock it. Heres my specs...

AMD 64 2800+
ASUS K8V Se Deluxe MOBO
Crucial 3200DDR 1GB
PSU 420W unknown origin (Lookings to upgrade to a 520W Aspire???)
Stock fans and heatsink.

Please recommend some FSB speeds and some info on how to keep my ram in check while doing this would help me a lot. I just want to take extra measures not to mess up this computer! Id appreciate anything you could do.

THankz a bunch!

Do NOT get an Aspire PSU...the reviews on them are horrible! 420W is plenty, provided you have the right amperage on the +12v rail. Check the label on the side of the PSU...if the +12v has 18A or better, you should be fine.

ASUS A7N8X-X
Athlon XP 1800+
8.5 x 200MHz
1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7
Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro SP1

Try this

HTT freq * CPU multiplier

250 * 8 = 2.0 Gigs
300 * 7 = 2.1 Gigs
300 * 8 = 2.4 Gigs
350 * 7 = 2.45 Gigs
350 * 7.5 = 2.625 Gigs
360 * 7.5 = 2.7 Gigs
try another config

if your memory cannot run at 1:1 with HTT freq(obviously it can't), use divider. for A64 system, tight timing is more important than a few more FSB

find your processor's code, make sure it is not a C0 revision. if it is, you will have a hard time to OC it. your stock HSF should provide enough cooling.
As jam said if +12v amperage > than 18 A, it's good.

Athlon 64 2800+ @ 2.63 Ghz
350Mhz * 7.5
V-Gen 512MB pc3200 2-3-2-5
DFI Lanparty UT NF3
Abit R9550 VGuru XTurbo
525 Mhz / 300 Mhz

Hey yeah thanks for the help guys, i was wondering about those dividers, now my ram is DDR400 so my FSB x Divider should not be more than 200 correct? And ive heard from other sources that i should keep my Multiplyer more than 5, now the FSB, does that have a limit i should stay away from. Anyway what about heat problems, i have some money i could invest in a better fan and heatsink for my cpu, recommendations? One last thing, am i going to have to change any voltage settings and such?

THankz a bunch!
