Subject: Overclocking issue
OS: XP
CPU/Ram: P4 524 (3.06) HT/1 GB DDR
Model/Manufacturer: Asus P5B-Mx-Wifi
Comment:
hi,

i have managed to over clock my cpu P4 524 to 3.81 Ghz and its running stable, i have a xfx 8600 Gt Fatal1ty installed, on these setings 3d Mark gives a score of 8514, but when i try to over clock cpu more, the scores decreases and i could see the difference in the 3d mark tests as well.

The Temp of the CPU on load goes upto 55C.
The voltage i am currently giving is 1.4825 v

ive tried to take it to 3.91 with voltage of 1.5000 it was not stable, i checked with orthos, then i increased the voltage but same it was not stable, while running orthos the cpu temp on load was 56C, is this the limitation of my board? or CPU or RAM

I have a simple ram TwinMoss DDR2 533

or do i need to have a combination of 1:1 to overclock more

Stock settings are 23 x 133MHz? So apparently you've jacked the CPU freq up to approx 166MHz? What speed is your RAM running at? For best performance, you should maintain a 1:1 ratio. In other words, it *should* be running at 166MHz (DDR333) to match the CPU. If you left it at 266MHz (DDR533) & overclocked from there, the RAM may be what's holding you back.

Also, make sure to lock the PCI at 33MHz & the PCI-e at 100MHz, & disable any Spread Spectrum settings.

yes jam spot on.

ram is currently at 322 mhz 4-4-4-12, i dont know how it is at that much should be at 266+33 = 299 because i just increased the cpu by 33 mhz.

pci-ex also at 100 and pci at 33 mhz

its 1:2 ratio so if processor is at 166 the ram would be at 332.
